Today was our second day of mission, and our first into the swing of things at Shore school, as classes started back for the week. The Moore team started off at 7am on a cold and rainy morning with a BBQ cook-up of egg and bacon sandwiches for the students as they arrived at school. This was a great chance to promote mission week, to meet some of the boys, and to give free food just as Jesus freely gives to us.

The majority of the day was spent in different Christian Studies classes, both observing and teaching. It was exciting for the team to see how Jesus is being taught to the different ages of students. Some of the team had a go at teaching classes too. In many of these classes students were encouraged to ask tough questions and they did. The Moore team worked hard trying to answer questions such as; ‘If God is real why don’t all people trust him?’ ‘Why does God allow suffering?’ ‘Are human rights given by God or made up by societies?’ In all these questions the teachers were quick thinking and answered well. Some of the team also had opportunities to share their testimonies, explaining why they need and follow Jesus.

The whole team attended the senior chapel service, where Peter spoke on Matthew 16. He told the students that Jesus is a bad salesman. Unlike those offering health and wealth, Jesus tells those who would follow him just how hard it will be, but doesn’t tell anyone to do what he himself wasn’t willing to do.

A small portion of the team went to the Northbridge campus of the school, which is where the Early Childhood Centre and infancy are. We were able to observe the chapel service held for the kindergarten, year 1 and 2 students, with one of our team getting to participate as a camel’s backside!

Prayer points:

  • That the good conversations we’ve started having with the students and staff would continue.
  • Pray for the Shore team to be planning lessons that are well targeted at the students, that the students will have the best opportunity to learn more about Jesus.
  • Pray for the Shore team testimonies to be clear examples of faith and that the students will be inspired to follow in that faith.
