Day 3 / Scripture and Training

Today we had a great day where we got to share the gospel with kids at Penrith Public school. A team went down to school and taught various scripture classes, covering from kindergarten to year four. The team said that it was an awesome opportunity where the story of David and Goliath was used to show how David put his trust in God in the face of Goliath – and through God’s power, he became the unlikely victor. We saw that we can have victory over sin through trusting in Jesus, who defeated sin and death by rising from the dead.

We were also blessed to receive a training seminar from Tim Scheuer (from Glenmore Park Anglican) focusing on evangelism, with a specific focus on door knocking. Tim shared with us a framework that helped us to think about how we introduce ourselves, how we bridge using questions and our own stories to then engage in gospel conversations and offering to pray for the person, finishing with working out what the next step would be for engaging with that person. This training was incredibly helpful as it was underlined by the fact that our mentality should be to think about searching for the person whom God has prepared. Tim also shared with us a few skills that can help us to be good listeners, using attentiveness and honesty as we meet people at their doors.

Tonight, we look forward to watching the movie ‘For the Love of God: How the church is better and worse than you ever imagined’. We are going to follow this with a panel where people can ask any questions that were raised from the movie. Be praying that people who have been invited will come along,  that they can have their questions answered faithfully, and that the  gospel may be proclaimed as questions are answered. Pray also that they may  not just consider the gospel tonight, but also into the future – coming to a saving faith in Jesus.
